How did you start the whole DJ/Producer thing?
Who were
your main influences that got you to dj and Producing? It started a long time ago I guess. I started making music on
the computer when I was really young, at the time I was also
playing piano and a bit later I got into playing the drums. When
I was about 15 I bought my first set of decks and started djing,
I got my first gigs when I was about 17 and slowly started
playin my own tunes in my sets. When people told me they
couldnt tell which ones were my own tunes and which ones
where released tunes I figured I might have a chance releasing
some music and I started sending my music to labels. I got
alot of interest from a few labels and soon got my first release.
Thats how it went in short.
How do you describe your sound?
The sound I'm propably most well known for is the rolling
minimalistic stuff with heavy basslines. Although I try not to
pin myself down to one sound too much, I've always done
some more musical stuff and curently am doing alot of stuff
with strong influence from contemporary techno.
Who are the artists that you are feeling at the present day?
(dnb wise and other genres)
In drum and bass I am currently really into Spinline, Alix Perez
and Spectrasoul. I find myself playin their stuff in my sets all the
time. Outside of dnb I'm really into recent stuff by Stimming,
Marco Carola, Guido Schneider, Gui boratto and loads more.
You are going to release your album on Shogun Audio. How
is that coming, want to tell us a little bit about it?
Well, I want to make sure that this album wont be 10
dancefloor tracks that could have been a bunch of 12"es. I've
started scetching the outlines of the project and have started
work on the first tunes for it. I want to work with diffrent artists
on it including producers from diffrent genres and vocalists.
How do you feel about, what looks like a new era in Drum and
bass, going full circle, and grabing the 90´s style again, going
back to experimentation and a more minimal sound?
I don't think it's right to call it a new era, as you said it's just
going back to the classic '98 sound but with more modern
production technique. I love that sound and its what has
influenced me most within drum and bass. But I always try to
remember that if we continue to make these tunes we need to
bring more to the table. The genre isnt going to progress if we
keep repeating ourselves.
Steak or vegetables?
Well I had Kobe beef in Kobe last month and that was
definately the best food I ever tasted, than again I do like
my vegetables.
What do you have to say to young producers starting out?
any tips in the studio?
Keep working hard, as long as you know in your head what
you want to hear, all you have to do its keep trying. eventually
you will make that tune that sets you apart from the rest.
Drum and bass labels are pretty interested in new artists so
don't be afraid to send your stuff around but make sure
whatever you send is the best you can make it. You only
get one first impression. |
